The Tennis Debacle

To get back in shape for the summer, Tyson and I signed up for beginner tennis lessons. Tyson used to play in high school, and I have always wanted to give it a shot. What a good excuse for date night! During the first class, I was nailed in the eye with a ball within the first 15 minutes. We joked after the class about how horrible I was, and how Tyson was Mr. Wimbledon. Lesson two was going really smoothly, until about three minutes left in class, when I heard a loud snapping sound. I looked across the court to see Tyson lying on the floor. Instantly, Tyson knew it was his Achilles. I rushed him to the ER, and they confirmed that his Achilles was ruptured. He left the hospital in a full-leg splint. He had surgery on April Fool's day, and the doctor said it was a text book rupture and a very straight forward procedure. His recovery was going well until his first outing two weeks after the surgery. We decided to get some fresh air and enjoy a nice dinner out with Greg, Amy and little D. On the way to the brewery, Tyson decided to navigate his knee walker down a curb. Needless to say, he fell directly on his injury. I bolted to get our car as the kids screamed and Tyson winced in pain on the street. Thankfully, his Achilles was not re-ruptured, but he did tear a few stitches. If the remainder of the recovery process goes as planned, he might be able to golf by August, although a full recovery could take up to a year. Even though we are bummed that we can't run another half marathon together this summer, something like this puts life in perspective and I am grateful that this is all we have to worry about right now.

Elliot's First Book

We were sitting at the table coloring yesterday afternoon, when Ellie decided she wanted to create her first book. She literally glued together various pages she had been coloring over the past few day that were filled with collages and hand drawings. As she was reading me the book, I jotted down the words. She was able to write some of the words herself on the pages. Here goes:

Elliot and Mom's Trip

First they saw a skier and a cat.
Then they couldn't find a dog because there were so many hats that it was too, too dark.
There was a family that was walking in the water with some little fish.
There were a whole bunch of people and they liked fruit.
Then there were two signs and we stopped.

Although it seems really random, she based it on the inital pages she had already created such as a kitty card and a postcard with a skier she cut apart and glued onto some paper, and a few Dr. Suess cut-out hats from school. She also hand drew her own people, beach and STOP sign. This is definitely one of those things we will keep forever!

Giving It A Shot...

So, we might be the last family on Earth to begin a blog. As my memory starts to fail, I thought this would be a great way to capture our family memories. Anyhow, here goes...

Spring has sprung
The warm weather can't get here fast enough. We already watched our first sunset of the season at the beach with the girls. Of course, we made a pit stop at Captain Sundaes on the way. Campbell was especially amazed with the sun, and kept asking why the sun sleeps in the water. March 27 marks our first year in Holland, and we can't wait to continue building our life here. We have lots of fun things planned including tennis lessons and another half marathon for the rents, soccer for the kiddos, and a lot of beach time. The girls can't wait to test their swimming skills in the lake. We are also renting a garden plot and attempting to grow our own produce. Should be interesting.

We continue to juggle multiple home projects. The top on our list right now is setting up the swing set, and getting the stone fire pit built.

Anyhow, off to take the girls to the park!
